AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. Truly terrible. I am extremely lenient when it comes to rating restaurants but this place was absolutely terrible. I would give 0 stars if I could. Went to hang out at the bar and eat around 9:30 last night. We were seated quickly and our waiter Charles was extremely friendly and attentive but it all went down hill from there. First, we were told that we couldn't order any liquor because there was a private party on the back deck. I guess the bartenders haven't been trained to handle a crowd? Or maybe they were just being lazy because they knew they would have a good night due to the party. Regardless, totally unacceptable. Next, we received our first round of beers and were told immediately that we couldn't order anything more to drink because of the private party. Last time I checked private party didn't mean private bar. Finally, as we were sitting and enjoying the ONE round of drinks we were allowed, a woman came over, snatched the two candles and ash trays from our table, and said "we need these for the private party." HORRIBLY RUDE. As we looked around, we noticed several empty tables that had candles and ash trays yet she needed to take ours for some reason. We then watched as she brought our candles and placed them on the deck railing at least 10 feet away from anyone at the private function (which by the way only had a total of 12 people). Overall, this was by far the worst service I have ever received. Before visiting Sugami, I wouldn't have even been able to fathom the disrespect and disregard displayed by all of the employees (except for Charles who was wonderful) as possible. I will never go here again. If you want sushi, go to King Kong. And if you want to drink, go anywhere else in Myrtle Beach.

Nice decor and atmosphere, service was lack luster as the waitress was not well versed in what the ingredients were when i asked questions.. Overpriced in my opinion as well...seemed like more people came to this place for the hibachi portion more then the sushi itself..my opinion is stop by only if you have to, i would be willing to try a new Place next Time.

Loud rap music did not make for a good atmosphere and wait staff that did not pay attention to their tables. If I'm paying $50 for a meal I expect a little attention! Sushi was ok. Visit Soho instead!

Terrible. Waiter was doing his best, very nice guy but the whole experience was entertaining!! The manageress mid meal started really telling off one of her staff, right next to our table!! Quite remarkable really. We would not recommend this place to anyone wanting good Japanese food. Stay away!

Not cheap! But very good rolls! The food was fresh, service was fast and not intrusive. A good quiet place for lunch.

The family wanted hibachi on a Friday night. Came here after realizing the original restaurant was fast hibachi. Was conveniently located with other restaurants around. I was a little hesitant when I arrived because it didn't seem very well-maintained. We were seated right away and ordered our food pretty quickly. Typical hibachi menu. At first, we were the only family in the hibachi area and turned off the very loud TV. The chef was excellent and very funny and skilled. Chicken and vegetables were well seasoned and very fresh and hot. Very casual ambience.

There are a few different places called Sugami (much like the Buddha lounge) so be sure to get the right address. This place was featured prominently on the Beach TV channel as an established hibachi grill and authentic Japanese steakhouse. After a little investigation in the form of asking around, I determined that the spot had previously been a favorite for locals and vacationing golfers - which is basically the same crowd - but had fallen from favor due to menu and staff changes to lure in a younger, hipper crowd. This fact cemented my resolve to check it out. I typically use vacationing golfers as my reverse barometer for just about everything. Other than buffet locations or a descriptive observation of a hooters server, generally I disregard most of they tell me. No offense intended. That scene is just not my thing. Not yet, anyway. I arrived for the dinner service with my lady friend and realized changes had been made even though it was my first visit. The bar was of modern design, not particularly imaginative but very inviting. Most of the dining area however was from late 1980's Benihana. They kept the prior mystique of a local hibachi and just added some modern flair. Had the place been any bigger, it would not have worked. But this place seemed cozy enough to get away with it. The service was adequate, the bartenders were friendly - mostly Russian girls, so the scenery was nice and the conversation was interesting. We ordered some maki, including the Soundboy roll (smoked salmon Philly tempura), some sashimi and a few gilled appetizers. The drink selection was fair but the house Sake was bland and ordinary. The sushi was good, but nothing to write home about. The grill items however were excellent, so if you are on the bubble about sushi, go for that menu right away. The value of this place was definitely the swag. It seemed to be the late night hipster hangout much like the other sushi bars in the area. The parking was kind of a mess, but it was not very inconvenient to park nearby and walk a few blocks (it's the beach for crying out loud). My best advice, the older you are, the earlier you want to arrive. They started to bump some Riviera discotheque around 11 PM, which I was feeling - and most of the crowd approved. There is room for improvement, but overall I give it thumbs up.

We stopped here when Myrtle beach was insane for bike week. There was no wait and The service was fine and the sushi was ok. But- the hibachi chicken was burnt and I never got the veggies that was supposed to come with the meal. I wouldn't recommend this spot.

If I could give less stars I would..... the waitress was unfriendly and uninterested. ... terrible service.... the chef was great.... however.... we ordered filet.... it was very tough and chewy..... when we told the Mgr he told us they have a different kind of fillet there.... we let them know we were very unsatisfied.... when we got our check of 128.00 there was a 20.00 tip added on for 3 adults and a 3 yr old..... my husband refused to pay the tip so they supposedly took it off.... when I looked at my bank account they had charged us the 148.00 and then another 128.00..... DO NOT GO HERE!

Got our sushi to-go so can't speak much about the service. But I'm sure glad we didn't make plans to dine-in because there was a loud group (the only other people there) and they were smoking, which for me is a no-no, when it comes to eating indoors. As for the sushi, it was alright, though I've had better. Overall, it's an ok place when you're in a late-night mood for sushi.

Under new management!! The place has been turned around immensely! Great sushi! And buy one get one rolls after 10pm! Awesome spot for late night munchies! Mary is the best!

They are open until 1 AM. Including Sunday's!! Nothing is open after 9 on Sunday. Very good sushi. The rice is fresh and moist. Nice bar. People were smoking at the bar but for all I know you are allowed to do that in SC. Place is clean with upscale feeling to it. They need better shrimp sauce

Went for an inexpensive lunch and got just that - but excellent! Great service, good food and great sushi too, what more can you ask for? With 1700+ restaurants in this town, it was refreshing to find a good, inexpensive one! Go for it for sure.

If parking behind the building, it's unclear into which door one can enter. In the end, it seems to be only the front door... Sushi is ok, but nothing special. The seating feels cluttered, as if one is eating in a furniture storage room. It's hard to explain... :) Didn't finish the salad because it tasted as if it wasn't washed that well. I believe the hypothesis that one can tell how clean the restaurant is by the way its bathroom is. This one needs some repair and cleaning. The drink from the bar seemed a little watered down. Pad Thai was good. Given the price and number of local alternatives, i would not come back to Sugami again.

Bad enough that I signed up for Yelp just to write this review. Parking is behind the building and super sketchy. Looks nice inside but as soon as we sat down they started blaring extremely loud country music. Food was inexpensive but we found out why once it arrived. My friend's steak was almost completely RAW and was not ordered that way. Server offered to "throw it back on the grill" but it was too late. I had chicken hibachi and it also had a strange squishy texture. Almost like microwaved food. We both ate the rice and that was about all we could stomach. We both have felt ill for an entire day since eating here. The server was fine- she appeared to be the only server working and was very busy but pleasant. Overall one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Very disappointed!

My husband and I stopped in after looking up sushi restaurants while at the beach. The sushi was great and a very diversified sushi menu. We signed up on Yelp just to leave a great review because it was so good. Slightly pricey on some rolls but so is everything at beach, sushi rolls $5-$14.

Good prices, service is hit or miss. Great selection of Sushi and pretty good compared to any of its competition- or lack thereof. Gets really packed at night, but if you are from out of town and just craving some Sushi - this is the place to go.
